Na szczególną uwagę zasługuje znaczne rozszerzenie funkcji służących do integracji informacji w obrębie całego przedsiębiorstwa. Innowacje w zarządzaniu Dzięki wyeliminowaniu, uproszczeniu i zautomatyzowaniu wielu czynności administracyjnych w DB2 v8.1 uzyskano znaczne uproszczenie zarządzania danymi.
