Oczekiwali wyajności, stabilności i skalowalności Berkeley DB ale bez konieczności tworzenia złożonych i kosztownych interfejsów do biblioteki napisanej w C. Ta biblioteka jest realizacją oczekiwań i jest napisana w całości w Javie.
