A Live CD distribution is a bootable CD-based GNU/Linux distribution. It has the ability to run all the available programs entirely off the CD-ROM using advanced, on-the-fly decompression techniques to load the requested programs into the main memory (RAM). This means that one will not have to install anything on the harddisk. The entire system boots off a CD, with programs on the CD autodetecting and setting up the system hardware.

1FCD-OpBSD (also known as Karma BSD) is a one-floppy OpenBSD MP3 player with functionality to mount NTFS, UDF (on DVD, CDROM, or external USB disks), EXT2FS, NFS, MFS, and MSDOS file systems. It plays MP3 tracks, and can copy files from any disk to any disk. The software may be useful for the blind and it can also be used as a unique utility for copying files over a network (via NFS) or from any file system known to OpenBSD. USB sticks can be mounted as well, so you will have a unique one-floppy copy tool in case your CDROM is broken and you use older notebook/computer. Static OpenBSD binaries can be made on other systems (such as mp3blaster with ogg support) and used with Karma BSD. It is an operating system on a floppy.

Cool Linux is a product of Andrei Velikoredchanin, also known as "Uncle Andy" from Russia. The bootable CD is based on Red Hat Linux with full graphical environment and IceWM as the only desktop. Several nice touches distinguish this product form other CD-based distributions - the CD includes NVidia drivers, the Blender 3D modeling application and a functional trial edition of VMware. On the negative side, the hardware configuration is done with Red Hat's Kudzu and Xconfigurator which requires user interaction during boot. Most of the selected applications are on the light side of system resource requirements (e.g. Opera, Sylpheed) with one notable exception - OpenOffice 1.0 as the only office suite.
