krecord is a KDE sound recorder. Easy to use (I hope). It can just record and playback wav-files, nothing else. Can handle multiple files, you can drop files (from the file manager) to it, it can handle large sound files without problems. Has a input level display.

CGP stands for Curses General Player and represents a general audio player interface built on CDK(Curses Development Kit) and ncurses. It can play different audio formats by adding filters. A filter is a file wildcard with an associated play command. MP3do is an "all in one" bash script. It is useful for decoding and mastering MP3s. It can decode a list of MP3 files to WAV or CD-R, auto convert poor quality MP3s to 44100Hz stereo, check whether all files fit on a CD, normalize all WAV files (adjust the volume to a standard volume level), and burn a CD.
